ZYREX APPLICATION GUIDE

NEW FIBERGLASS BOAT

1)     Wipe entire bottom with acetone alternating white rags to remove mold waxes

2) Tape off at waterline, or customer may prefer to do the bottom only from edge to edge.

3) Sand with 40 or 80 grit sandpaper to remove shine of gel coat. You don’t want to see any shinny areas.

4) Wipe down with acetone again.

5) Re-tape at previous line

6) Mix A and B separately in their respective cans with a drill and mixing blade for 3-5 minutes. After pouring A and B together mix for 5 additional minutes to completely blend. Always clean mixing blade with Acetone after mixing each can.

7) Mix per instructions on can. Do not mix all at one time. You will want to mix what you think you will use for each coat or one or two quarts at a time. If you mix more than needed cover and place in fridge or cold area even a cooler with ice would work, if sealed it can be used for up
to 24 hours.

WE DO NOT RECOMMEND PLACING IN FRIDGE WITH FOOD.

8) We recommend using a short ¼” nap roller. Spraying wastes much more material, it must be sprayed on in a mist such as spraying PVA on a mold which leads to applying double the amount of coats. In addition more material is lost in the air due to atomization.  All coats must go on very thin.

9) Apply one coat of ZYREX, it should be thin so as not to run or ripple. If you notice a run-roll lightly to remove. Then proceed to other side.

Remove all tape, if left on will become hard and difficult to remove.

10) Allow ZYREX to dry to touch – Between 2-24 hours depending on temperature and humidity, the cooler the air the longer you can go between coats if needed.

11) Repeat steps 6-10 until you get 4 complete coats on boat. Blue, Green and White are a little more translucent so you will need a 5th coat for even coverage.

12) Allow to cure for 24 hours

13) Move jack stands or straps to previously coated areas

14) ZYREX other areas. You can carefully heat up areas with a heat gun or heat lamp to speed dry. Make sure heat source is 18” to 24” away from surface.

15) Allow boat to sit for at least 3 days before splashing in water. 7 days is recommended when possible

Used Fiberglass Boat With Or Without Bottom Paint
